Cindy Matthews, A Jewelry Designer With Dercum’s Disease Donates Bracelet

October 16, 2012

Jewelry designer Cindy Matthews of Arrowdale Art Studio is no novice when it comes to crafts. From sewing to embroidery, collaging, decoupage, painting, and most recently, polymer clay, she has tried her hand at it all. But when she learned she had adiposis dolorosa, or Dercum’s disease, and could no longer work, she took on claying.  Dercum’s disease is a rare condition characterized by multiple, painful lipomas, or benign tumors. Since both her rare condition and interest in polymer clay/crafts occurred around the same time, Cindy has always associated clay with Dercum’s disease.  Cindy’s donation to the 7000 ‘Bracelets for Hope’ program allowed her to combine her craft with her fight against this rare disease.

I’m donating to this program for two reasons – one, because I appreciate the cause, of course, and also because I’m a member of the Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy (PCAGOE), and we’ve adopted this cause for our monthly challenge.

Cindy’s designs are always one of a kind and original to her, but she believes all jewelry designers are influenced by one another.  To view more of Cindy’s collection, visit Arrowdale Art Studio on ETSY or connect with her on Facebook.

Thank you Cindy, for supporting the 7000 ‘Bracelets for Hope’ program.  We are glad you accepted the PCAGOE monthly challenge!
