Designer, Alyson Garvey Donates Bracelet To A Family Affected by Rare Disease, To Let Them Know They Are Not Alone

November 6, 2012

Alyson Garvey is a jewelry designer/social worker who has been making jewelry since 2001.  Maggie’s Corner, her shop on Etsy, offers economical, handmade jewelry including earrings, bracelets, necklaces and anklets. All of these pieces are made with base metals, brass or copper. Her other techniques include etching, PMC (precious metal clay) and enamels. Jewelry making comes from her heart, and she loves sharing her pieces with others and hearing the joy they get from wearing a piece.

As a social worker in the medical field, Alyson is empathetic to the impact a disease has, not only on an individual, but on a family and close friends. Having worked for hospice care in the past 10 years, she has participated in active listening, encouraging and supporting families, but ultimately she wanted to do more.

Giving a bracelet to the Global Genes Project is a more material, concrete way I can let someone know that they are not alone and they have a touchstone to remind them that others are thinking of them. – Alyson
