Kam is an HIBM patient whose friends (and her) founded Bike for Kam, a grassroots project run entirely by volunteers. The mission of Bike for Kam is to raise funds and awareness for all those afflicted with HIBM (Hereditary Inclusion Body Myopathy).

HIBM is a very rare genetic muscle debilitating, and degenerative condition. It causes progressive muscle wasting and weakness that begins in young adulthood (usually 20-30) and can lead to a quadriplegic state within 10-15 years.

To help increase awareness (for HIBM), ridership and funds, a small group will ride their bikes from Los Angeles to San Diego from June 1st to June 2nd, 2013. Without mobile tent cities, sag wagons, or cheering volunteers at well-stocked rest stops, this group will carry everything on their bikes (including camping gear, clothes, food and water).

It is no longer about finding a cure; it’s about funding the cure. As a grassroots project, all the work has been voluntarily created by the B4K team so that 100% of donations can go directly to HIBM Medical Research. B4K is a labor of love and a lot of fun!
