We were so honored to have both boys at our 2013 Champions of Hope Tribute event for their fantastic contribution to rare disease education through their book “Chocolate Bar.” We asked their parents what a year as Champions of Hope meant to them and where they are today.
“The boys had such a great time at the ceremony,” said mom, Debra Siegel, “They loved getting dressed up and hanging out on the blue carpet!”
“Since September we have come a long way. We have now sold over 16,000 books in 50 countries and made over $780,000 towards a cure for GSD.”
The boys were honored by the University of Florida in February, receiving their first ever Young Philanthropist Award. Dylan also received the Charlotte Bacon Acts of Kindness Award in Newtown, CT and the Zimmer Museum’s first ever Random Acts of Kid-ness Award in Los Angeles. The boys appeared on World News with Diane Sawyer on ABC in February and then a number of other TV shows, including a morning show in Australia.
What’s next for the boys? A copy of Dylan’s book is being published in Brazil in Portuguese this spring, an app is in the works for a digital book with extras and they just returned from Atlanta where they participated in Hershey’s Global Marketing Conference.
Fans of the Chocolate Bar phenomenon can stay updated on their progress through their website and Facebook page.
