Each September, FMD Chat provides an opportunity for patients and caregivers to come together in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina to enjoy an unique day-long retreat focused on learning and self-care. FMD Chat Together 2014 will be held Sept. 20 at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Asheville, N.C. Known for its artsy culture, great food and outdoor adventure, Asheville is a vibrant town with a little something for everyone, and the Crowne Plaza Resort offers a host of amenities including on site golf, tennis, zip lines, swimming, full-service spa and more. FMD Chat strives to make its annual retreat affordable to attend. Tickets for the retreat are $30 each, and FMD Chat’s group rate at Crowne Plaza Resort is $95 for a double and $109 for a king. We hope that you will make FMD Chat Together part of your year, but if you can’t, please consider making a donation in order to join in spirit.

Patients and caregivers have every reason to join in at FMD Chat Together 2014, but providers will have the added benefit this year of earning continuing medical education credit. Additional details about earning CME credits will be provided in coming months! Meanwhile, take a few moments to learn about rare disease and social media courtesy of our friends at Stanford’s Medicine X, which dedicated its weekly MedX Live! video production to rare disease awareness on Feb. 25, 2014 and featured FMD Chat Medical Advisory Board member Dr. Sharonne Hayes of Mayo Clinic. Medicine X’s Executive Producer,Dr. Larry Chu of Stanford University, also is a FMD Chat Medical Advisory Board member.

Since so much of living with a rare disease means dealing with the unknown, FMD Chat has partnered with Bravelets to celebrate our patients and caregivers. With the slogan “be brave,” Bravelets offers jewelry and accessories, appropriate for both men and women, in colors selected to support a chosen cause. Ten dollars of each Bravelets purchase from FMD Chat’s Brave Page will help support our mission. When you make a Bravelet purchase, be sure to share your choice of red, burgundy or teal with us on Facebook and Twitter.
