What are the RARE Champions of Hope Awards?

The RARE Champions of Hope Awards event celebrates, honors, and recognizes Champions of Hope in the rare disease community. It is a time we stand together as a  community to support those who inspire us to do more, to do better, and to help positively impact patients and their families around the globe.

Who can nominate?

Nominations are open to members of the rare disease community who either know, or is themselves, a Champion of Hope. 

What are the award categories in which I can nominate for?

RARE Champions in Advocacy (Individual and Foundation) – RARE Champions in Advocacy recognizes individuals and or Foundations in rare disease or within the general public who are advocates involved in a program, event or legislative effort to bring awareness to rare disease patients, their families or community. 

RARE Champion in Industry – This award honors Industry partners in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology space who are recognized as exceptional partners. These nominees display collaborative efforts in engaging with rare disease communities and stakeholders while driving change for therapies in the rare disease space.

RARE Champion in Medical Care and Treatment – This award is honoring those medical and healthcare professionals who are recognized innovators in clinical care and treatment for rare disease. Nominees display excellence in engaging with patients and families to optimize care and treatment, act as a leader in medical care, and are recognized experts for a specific patient population.

RARE Champion in Science and Technology – RARE Champions in Science and Technology celebrates researchers who are trailblazers and leaders in disease-specific research, drug development, and scientific processes. This person or group of people use an innovative approach to develop effective treatments to advance research for a specific rare disease community. Nominees should be conducting patient-driven research, research in academia, industry, or within an advocacy organization.

RARE Rising Star – RARE Rising Star recognizes inspirational young individuals in rare disease or within the general public who are advocates involved in a program, event, or legislative effort to bring awareness to rare disease patients, their families, or community. Nominees can be patients or champions for patients.

RARE Founder’s Award – The RARE Founder’s Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a devotion to the ideals of the founder of Global Genes. These individual nominees exhibit their commitment to connecting, empowering and inspiring the rare disease community through their lifetime contributions and achievements advocating for people living with rare disease.

Why should I nominate?

Each year Global Genes recognizes an incredible group of individuals that inspire us to do more, to do better, and to help positively impact patients and their families around the globe. Help us identify the 2021 RARE Champions of Hope by nominating an individual, organization or collaboration in your community that has made an impact in advocacy, medical care & treatment, industry or science & technology.

When is the submission deadline?

The submission deadline is Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:59PM (ET).

Can I submit more than one nomination?

Absolutely! We encourage you to nominate as many awards as you see fit. Please note that awardees are determined by merit, not the number of submissions.

How are final awardees selected?

All nominations will be reviewed and awardees will be selected by a Global Genes identified committee.

When will the nominees and awardees be announced?

Nominees will be announced in late August. Awardees will be publicly announced at the RARE Champions of Hope Celebration on Thursday, November 18, 2021.

What will nominees receive?

All nominees will receive a letter and special recognition gift.

 

RARE Champions of Hope Celebration

What is the RARE Champions of Hope Celebration?

The RARE Champions of Hope Celebration will recognize and celebrate each of the 

awardees for their inspiring work within the rare disease community. 

When will the event take place?

The event will take place on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. ET. 

Where will the event take place?

The event will be hosted at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel.

Do I need to register for the event?

Yes. Registration will open at the end of September. More information regarding registration will be available soon.
