3rd International Meeting on the Genetic Syndromes of the Ras/MAPK Pathway

May 3, 2013

Date of Event:  July 30-August 4th, 2013

Organization: RASopathies Network USA (Event submitted by Lisa Schoyer)

Location: The Renaissance Orlando in Florida

Genetic syndromes of the Ras/MAPK pathway (RASopathies, which includes CFC, Costello, Neurofibromatosis type 1 and Noonan syndromes) bi-annual meeting, at the Renaissance Orlando in Florida

This meeting is concurrent with the four syndromes of family support organizations:

Co-chairs: Bruce Korf, MD, PhD (University of Alabama) and Alcino Silva (University of California, Los Angeles).

With the understanding that three of the RASopathies were related genetically after all– because their features were so similar– came a dramatic shift in human genetics, because of how their known genes are related. That their mutations are on a well-researched cell-regulating pathway also meant a big step forward in research, because a third of all human tumors have a mutation on the same pathway. With this understanding also came the realization that existing small molecules that work to regulate the pathway may well benefit our children! Internationally recognized speakers will share their latest findings, including reports on murine studies and clinical trials.

Sponsors confirmed to date include:

  •  National Cancer Institute
  •  NINDS
  •  NCATS – ORDR
  •  Children’s Tumor Foundation
  •  International Costello Syndrome Support Group
