I ♥ OC Giving Day, hosted by the Orange County Community Foundation will be hosting its first-ever countywide giving day on April 21st & 22nd, 2015. Global Genes hopes to be one of the organizations that will receive funding through bonus awards and prizes to help support their mission.
Is Orange County the new hub for the innovative rare disease community? Global Genes, situated in the heart of Aliso Viejo, seems to think so. As they have for the last three years, this coming September they will host their annual RARE Patient Advocacy Summit in Orange County—an event that educates patients, advocates, doctors and families about how biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies are ramping up production for new treatments. They’ll also teach patients crucial tools to help them to be effective in their fight against government regulations on orphan drugs. Visitors and speakers will fly in from all over the world to bring their advice, connections, and technology to Orange County as they unite a global community of patients.
The weekend of the summit also includes an awards ceremony, the organization’s Tribute to The Champions of Hope Gala. Patients, advocates, and other members of the rare disease community look forward to this event, to come together and honor those champions who are pioneering research, advocacy, and science for their rare disease community.
I ♥ OC Giving Day program really helps us take a step back and look at what Global Genes has done globally, but also what the impact in Orange County has been. Here are just a few examples…

Denim Dash Takes Over Orange County for RARE Disease
This year, a new event was created that took place all over the world, and also in Global Gene’s backyard. The Denim Dash 5k Run/Walk for Rare Disease was created through collaborative efforts between Orphan Drug Solutions and Global Genes™ as a way to ensure that anyone, anywhere, can participate and show their support, raise awareness for patients, family and friends of the Rare Disease Community, while also helping to enrich and sustain the educational programs created by Global Genes! The 5k has raised almost $65K and is still receiving donations.
The Orange County Community Foundation has set up an online platform with searchable profiles of participating nonprofits. All donations will be processed through the website iheartoc.org. Anyone can donate to Global Genes or their favorite nonprofits from April 21 at 6 a.m. through Noon on April 22, 2015 via iheartoc.org. Nonprofits and donors can track progress throughout the event. Global Genes is excited to share in the excitement!
