Mother and Artist Help Raise Funds for Global Genes Through Etsy Shop

January 15, 2014

Marie Stanton of New York is doing whatever she can to support World Rare Disease Day this year. That includes using her Etsy shop to help raise funds for Global Genes. Her store, Sassy Sweet Pea Designs, features darling headbands for infants.

Stanton became involved in the rare disease community after daughter Ella Grace was diagnosed with classic galactosemia. She previously wrote for Global Genes about the Newborn Screening Process.

“Ella is my inspiration,” says Stanton. “I fell in love with headbands after hearing the words ‘It’s a GIRL.’ After having Ella and learning of her disease, I wanted to stay home with her.”

So she began working on an idea for an online shop.

“After ordering handfuls of headbands, I realized I could make them myself! I opened my shop in the hopes this would help make my dream of being a stay-at-home-mom come true. I opened in March 2013 and so far so good! I make every item with love and couldn’t be more thankful for all of my customers for helping make this dream come true!”

You can order from Marie’s shop here, where $8.00 per headband will be donated to efforts here at Global Genes!
