My Daddy: His Life with Myelodysplasia Syndrome

April 7, 2014

My Dad, William, loved living life. He loved fishing, lakes, deer hunting, boating and family get togethers as he loved to cook and entertain others.

Dad suffered from many autoimmune diseases such as Gout, Diabetes, R.A. Cardiomyopathy as well as a rare disorder called myelodysplasia. Myelodysplastic syndromes are a group of disorders caused by poorly formed or dysfunctional blood cells. Myelodysplastic syndromes occur when something goes wrong in your bone marrow— the spongy material inside your bones where blood cells are made.

My Dad also had congestive heart failure as well as prostate cancer. Through all of these diseases, my dad has endured strength and tolerence of pain and never let any of these ailments bring him down. He was a survivor until a cerebral hemorrhage finally took him home.

Sharing his life’s happiness and diseases may bring hope to others as others have brought so much hope to him, to educate himself, about himself as well as teach others about themselves too.
