Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation Chosen as Recipient of Eastside High Spirit Week

July 9, 2014

Organization: Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation

Eastside’s motto, “Strength through Human Understanding”, really captures what spirit week is all about. Every year, for over 30 years, Eastside’s student government has led the school in raising funds for charity in the form of a spirit week. In the spring, student government interviews five charities (out of the many that apply) and selects one charity to raise money for in the fall. Then, through the summer and the beginning of the school year, the students work to plan and host various fundraising events for both students and parents to enjoy. Although the student body raises the majority of the funds, Eastside relies heavily on parents, faculty, and the community for support.

This year, Eastside High School’s proceeds will go to the Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation. The foundation supports and funds research to find treatment and an eventual cure for Pitt Hopkins syndrome and other similar disorders. The foundation also supports parents and families of individuals with Pitt Hopkins through resource recommendations, parental support and the latest medical information. Through this effort, the foundation hopes to bring awareness about Pitt Hopkins and the phenomenal results that a cure could bring for not only Pitt Hopkins families, but many others affected by similar disorders such as Angelman Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, and Phelan-McDermid Syndrome.

Thank you for supporting 2014 EHS Spirit Week and the Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation!
