Salon V’co Hosts First Annual Voices for Rare Disease – A Smash Hit Benefiting Children

December 17, 2016

Victor Manuell and Corey Bastean, Co-owners of Lake Zurich’s , Salon V’co, wanted to give back this holiday season, so they teamed up with Kerry Hughes, founder of Harmony 4 Hope (H4H), to turn up the volume for Rare Disease.  “Supporting a local charity doing important work for disadvantaged children is important to us.” says Manuell. The LIVE music event held on Friday, December 2, transformed this modern, yet classic salon into a stage for Rare Disease.

Featuring the voices of Loren Reid Seaman, owner of LRS Interiors, Inc. and local youth, under the leadership of private voice coach, Barb Olita, Salon V’co hosted over 50 guests who enjoyed songs, sips, snacks and holiday cheer all while supporting H4H in their mission to fuel scientific discoveries in Rare Disease happening at world renowned, Rush University Medical Center, right here in ‘Sweet Home Chicago.’  Additional funds were also raised by Salon V’co and House of Betty Jane in support of H4H’s Play This Forward Program, which delivers to children throughout the year, the uplifting power of music.

“At the fulcrum of our mission is music. Through this universal language we are uniting people, fueling scientific discoveries in rare disease, educating, building awareness among the general public and delivering the uplifting power of music to children impacted by these oftentimes isolating diseases.” says Hughes.  “Children are the heart of our mission and we are grateful for the support of local businesses like Salon V’co and House of Betty Jane for joining our vision to be instrumental in rare disease.”

Collectively 350,000,000 people worldwide are impacted by 7,000 Rare Diseases.  Currently, only 200 of these diseases have FDA approved treatments.  Half of the people impacted are children. 50% of rare diseases do not have a disease specific foundation supporting or researching their disease.
