Ahumada Del Castillo Syndrome

Type of disease: Rare conditions

Ahumada Del Castillo syndrome, or amenorrhea-galactorrhea-FSH decrease syndrome, is a disorder that disrupts the endocrine system in females. The endocrine system is a collectction of glands which produe hormones which enter our ciruclatory system. The hormones act as messengers. Two of the glands of the endocrine system, the pituitary and hypothalamus, do not function properly in individuals with amenorrhea-galactorrhea-FSH decrease syndrome. This means that there is not enough of the hormones or messangers made by these two glands. Symptoms of this disorder include lactation (production of breast milk) when a person is not pregnant or nursing, and amenorrhea (lack of monthly menstruation). The disorder is rare, but can be treated with hormone supplements.
