Anophthalmia or Microphthalmia, Retinal Dystrophy and/or Myopia Associated with Brain Anomalies

Overview

Type of disease: Rare conditions

Anophthalmia or Microphthalmia, Retinal Dystrophy and/or Myopia Associated with Brain Anomalies, also known as Bakrania-Ragge syndrome, is a rare combination of birth defects, or a syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by missing or small eyes, retinal dystrophy (reduced or deteriorating vision), nearsightedness, and other birth defects affecting the brain. This syndrome has been seen in two families, and because it is so rare, treatment varies on a case-by-case basis.
