Calcifying Epithelial Odontogenic Tumor
Type of disease: Rare conditions
Calcifying Epithelial Odontogenic Tumor is a type of growth that is located in the tissue of teeth. This type of growth often prevents teeth from being able to grow out of the gum. Depending on the size of the growth, one tooth or multiple teeth can be affected, meaning they will not grow, or jaw can be affected as well. Doctors can diagnose this defect with a physical exam typically in early childhood, although it may not be externally visible until early adulthood. Treatment is developed on a case-by-case basis and depends on the specific needs on the patient. Dentists may recommend surgery to remove the growth.
