Cleft Lip Palate Abnormal Thumbs Microcephaly

Overview

Type of disease: Rare conditions

Cleft lip and/or palate abnormal thumbs microcephaly, also known as Juberg-Hayward syndrome, is a rare combination of birth defects, or a syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by abnormal facial deformities, such as cleft lip and/or palate, hand and finger deformities, and a small head. This syndrome often also includes intellectual disability (i.e. mental retardation), skeletal deformities, and abnormalities related to the kidneys, the organs which filter the blood and produce urine. Ten cases have been documented in the medical literature. Some elements of this condition can be treated with surgery, such as cleft lip and palate.
