Epiphyseal dysplasia, multiple, with myopia and conductive deafness
Type of disease: Rare conditions
Epiphyseal dysplasia, multiple, with myopia and conductive deafness is a disease that affects cartilage and bone development. This can cause the head, neck, limbs, and skeletal system to function incorrectly. Therefore, the most common symptom is joint pain. EDMMD can also cause eye and ear problems, which can prevent infants/children from having average growth rates.
EDMMD is a genetic disease, meaning it is passed down from parents to their children so it is not preventable. EDMMD can be diagnosed using genetic testing at any age but is most commonly done during childhood. However, there are some individuals with this disease who have very mild symptoms that they live their whole life without being diagnosed. Treatment options vary depending on the specific symptoms and diagnosed type of epiphyseal dysplasia. If you have been diagnosed with this condition, talk to your doctor about the the best treatment options for you.
