Left-sided gallbladder

Overview

Type of disease: Rare conditions

Left-sided gallbladder is a very rare condition where the gallbladder is situated on the left side of the abdomen instead of the right. The gallbladder is important for digestion as it contains a chemical called bile which helps digest fats and cholesterol. Typically, having the gallbladder on the left side of the abdomen does not cause any problems. The condition only becomes a problem when detecting gallbladder infection, or cholecystitis, and if abdominal surgery is needed for a different purpose.
