Yorifuji Okuno syndrome
Type of disease: Rare conditions
Yorifuji Okuno syndrome is a condition that is characterized by pancreatic insufficiency (i.e. the inability to properly digest food due to a lack of digestive enzymes made by the pancreas), diabetes and heart disease. It has been described in one Japanese family, in which the mother and at least two of her four children were affected (another two children died shortly after birth). The syndrome appears to be inherited. Less than 1 in a million individuals are affected.
