Cures Within Reach, a nonprofit funding repurposing research of drugs, devices, and nutraceuticals, said it is accepting proposals for repurposing research grants of up to $50,000 to researchers and clinicians based in low- and lower middle-income countries.

The proposals for the so-called ReGRoW Pilot are due March 1, 2020.

Repurposing tests already approved therapies to determine if they are safe and effective at treating an indication other than what they are already approved for by a regulatory agency. Repurposing may also involve combinations of approved therapies, modify treatment protocols, or test therapies approved in adult populations.

Cures Within Reach is seeking proposals that explore generic drugs, nutraceuticals, or indigenous medicines that could be repurposed to treat unsolved diseases. Submissions for this RFP will be reviewed, scored and ranked by an external grant review committee, and the top-rated proposals will be notified in four to six weeks and invited to submit a full grant.

To be eligible, projects must be proposed and conducted by researchers and clinicians located in low and lower-middle income countries, address any unsolved disease or medical condition, be human clinical research, and be completed in 12 to 36 months. Submissions must be made in English via the CureAccelerator platform.

Institutions seeking grants must be located in low- and lower middle-income countries; have received previous external, third party clinical research funding from government, NGO, private foundation or other sources; have an institutional review board or equivalent in place; and follow standards for Good Laboratory Practice, Good Clinical Practice and/or Good Laboratory and Clinical Practice. They also must have past or current experience with human clinical research.

More information can be found on the CureAccelerator FAQ page for more information about submitting a project on CureAccelerator. Additional submission instructions can be found here.
