Mystery Condition Revealed as Hailey-Hailey Disease for Woman With Painful, Raw Skin
November 15, 2016
Heather has come to The Doctors seeking relief from her rare genetic disorder, which causes her skin to rip and bleed.
At 19, Heather began developing a rash that grew from her neck down to her waistline. Her doctor first believed she was suffering from eczema. Three years later, the rash began to develop on her genitals and she was told it was herpes.
“It was devastating. I was dating somebody at the time and we broke up because I thought he was cheating on me,” she says.
The condition continued and never healed. Heather then saw a dermatologist, who was able to determine she had Hailey-Hailey disease or pemphigus, which is hereditary skin disease that cases painful blisters and rashes. There is no cure for Hailey-Hailey.
Heather tells The Doctors, “It’s so out of control” and she says has blisters on her breasts, upper and lower back, on her buttocks and knees. She explains that anytime she perspires, she suffers a breakout. In addition to being painful, her sores bleed and her skin can rip if she stretches too far.
After seeing over 15 different physicians, taking numerous unsuccessful medications and feeling like her and her daughter have been missing out on life, Heather has come to The Doctors seeking possible relief.
With the help of dermatologist Dr. Adean Kingston, find out in the video below what options Heather has for more effectively treating her Hailey-Hailey disease. Plus, Dr. Kingston has a generous surprise for Heather that will make her treatment process much easier to endure.
