Project Cypher Seeks to Raise Money for Child with Dihydrolipoamide Dehydrogenase Deficiency

A local hip-hop artist helping a 3-year-old boy with an extremely rare disease through music on Saturday night at a bar called The Warehouse in Battle Creek.

Jaxon House, 3, has dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase deficiency, which is a rare disease.

Ryan Evans, the organizer of Project Cypher, said, “Basically, what it entails is, any food that is taken in, baseically becomes a toxin inside the body. Carbs, fats, nutrients, and it starts to destroy the body from within.”

Organizers said Jaxon House is the only male in the world with the disease, but it is a disease that is rare in all individuals associated with people of Ashkenazi descent. The Ashkenazim are a Central and Eastern European Jewish community.

West Michigan hip-hop artists put on Project Cypher to raise money for Jaxon.

Evans said, “It’s bringing community together, to raise awareness about something that I think a lot of people don’t know anything about.”

In 2015, Organizers say they raised more than $3,000 to help another boy with a rare illness.

Project Cypher ran until midnight on Saturday, but there is a GoFundMe page set up for Jaxon.
