Supreme Court Rules Obamacare Will Live On

June 25, 2015

The Supreme court has ruled that controversial health care law, “Obamacare” will be upheld in what was a 6 to 3 decision.

The act uses federal tax credits for Americans meeting the criteria, who live in states with their own exchange as well as the 34 states with federal marketplaces.

“Five years ago, after nearly a century of talk, decades of trying, a year of bipartisan debate, we finally declared that in America, health care is not a privilege for a few but a right for all,” announced President Obama. “The Affordable Care Act is here to stay”

Chief Justice John Roberts sent shockwaves through the court after he declared that he would issue the majority opinion. For those keeping score, this is the second time he would be responsible for rescuing the piece of legislation.

“Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them. If at all possible, we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter,” said Roberts.
