Gifts of Hope, Treasures to Keep: The Spirit of Giving to Rare Disease

December 4, 2012

During this time of year, we are constantly engaged in the spirit of giving.  We take time to buy presents for the upcoming Holiday, buy food for the homeless, and write our names on the endless tags of wish lists on community giving trees.

Where the season of celebration and togetherness is upon us, so is the feeling of hope.  Hope for those suffering from chronic illness, undiagnosed and living in fear.  Hope for a treatment that may ensure the chance at life for another year.  Hope for the knowledge of others who may otherwise not understand what it means to live with a rare disease.  Hope for a cure.

7000 Bracelets of Hope is about sharing the selfless gifts from others providing hope that lasts throughout the year.  Every day, countless numbers of impassioned and generous individuals donate their time and artistic creativity to sufferers of Rare Disease.  Their beautiful treasures, a reminder that someone, somewhere is thinking not of themselves, but of another human who wants nothing but hope for their future health.

The following is just a very small portion of a few of those who are giving hope to Rare Disease during this Holiday season.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are small matters compared to what lies within us – I hope my designs can bring some cheer to a family going through a rough time. – Amy Freeland

LeafandTendril

I’m a self-taught jewelry designer working with colorful natural stones, brass and silver metal, and unique accent beads sourced from estate sales. I’ve always been crafty but found my niche in jewelry in 2009 and haven’t stopped making it since. I find working with my hands to be therapeutic and as I become immersed in a new design idea, the world falls away.

Being a part of the 7000 Bracelets for Hope project is a wonderful way for me to share both my jewelry and my desire to bring awareness to this cause. I hope the recipients of my bracelets will not only enjoy wearing them, but find some comfort in knowing that there are many of us out here sympathetic to their situation and sending positive wishes for a good outcome. – Christina Satterlee

I use my own beads in my designs and have donated before.  When I heard there was a need for more, I wanted to help. Through hosting a blog hop, I was able to get over 20 people to sign up and promise a donation! I “hope” it helps! – Susan Kennedy
