RareUniversity, originally launched in 2016, has moved to a new platform to improve its focus and better address knowledge gaps in the rare disease community.

This virtual education program developed by Global Genes aims to empower and educate the rare disease community through expertly-vetted education and advocacy resources.

The content, which is provided in accessible and easy-to-understand learning modules, is free and available indefinitely after enrollment to ensure each person can learn at their own pace.

RareUniversity provides information, guidance and empowerment. It educates and equips rare disease patients and caregivers on important topics to help affect change and build a more unified community of patients, advocates, caregivers and foundations.

The first course is a 12-part series on the drug development process and the valuable role of patients within it. It discusses the standard process for all drug development including discovery, pre-clinical research, clinical trials and regulatory review. It also examines how the development of rare disease therapies may differ and opportunities for patients.

The next course, Genetics 101, will examine genetic testing and scientific advances.
