Sweet Bella Is Battling Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Has Survived Over 40 Broken Bones Since Birth

July 11, 2012

Bella is three years old and was diagnosed in utero with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (O.I.), a.k.a. brittle bone disease resulting from a collagen defect. Doctors told us  Bella wouldn’t survive to birth, and if she did, she wouldn’t live to see her 1st birthday. Bella continues to prove the doctors wrong! She has had over 40 broken bones since birth. She had rods put in her arms and legs to help strengthen her bones.

Today Bella is 15 pounds and 25 inches tall. She is not yet able to walk, but she gets around by scooting on her bottom.

Hope – it’s in Bella’s genes!
