EveryLife, Backed by Amgen, Offers Scholarships for College Students with Rare Diseases

Everylife Foundation for Rare Diseases, with backing from #RAREis program by Amgen, for the fifth year is offering the #RAREis Scholarship Fund for college students with rare diseases.

This year Amgen increased support for the program to fund up to 88, $5,000 scholarships for the Fall 2024 semester.

The scholarships are open to U.S. residents 17 and older who have been diagnosed by a physician as having any form of rare disease regardless of treatment status. Undiagnosed patients are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must be planning to enroll full-time or part-time in undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical/trade school for the Fall 2024 semester. There is no minimum number of credit hours to be part-time.

Scholarship awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. There is a lifetime limit of four awards.

The 2024 application for the scholarships will be open from March 18 – April 22, 2024. As part of the application process, applicants must submit an essay of up to 2,000 words reflecting on a time during their rare disease journey where they intentionally practiced resilience.

Scholarships are awarded based on a number of criteria. In addition to the essay, applications are evaluated based on leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, academic performance, and financial need.
