Labcorp and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia are teaming up on a new effort to speed the development and nationwide rollout of specialized diagnostic tests designed specifically for children.

The strategic collaboration combines CHOP’s pediatric research and clinical expertise with Labcorp’s national laboratory network, scientific capabilities, and commercialization know-how. The goal is to move pediatric-focused tests from discovery to broad clinical use more quickly and make them easier to access for families across the country.

“Our shared aim to improve children’s health makes this collaboration so powerful,” said Stephen Master, division chief and director of metabolic and advanced diagnostics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “By pairing CHOP’s pediatric leadership with Labcorp’s nationwide reach, we seek to deliver important new and specialized tests to children and their families more efficiently and at greater scale.”

A key element of the partnership is a joint pediatric diagnostics innovation pipeline, through which the organizations plan to identify, develop, and expand new tests and technologies, with the aim of streamlining the path from early research to national availability. Pediatric-specific diagnostics can provide more accurate, age-appropriate insights by accounting for children’s unique biology, developmental stages, and normal lab value ranges, which often differ from those of adults and may be overlooked by traditional tests.

The collaboration is expected to bring novel diagnostics to clinicians nationwide in areas such as oncology, metabolic disease, autoimmune conditions, genetics, immune disorders, and rare diseases. By offering these tests through Labcorp’s infrastructure, the organizations say they hope to enable earlier and more precise diagnoses, which can be critical for children with complex or serious illnesses.

“Labcorp and CHOP share a commitment to advancing pediatric care,” said Bryan Vaughn, executive vice president, Diagnostics, at Labcorp. “By combining CHOP’s deep pediatric expertise with Labcorp’s scientific capabilities and national reach, we can bring pediatric diagnostic innovations to patients faster and make advanced testing accessible to many more families.”
