A Spiritual Resolution for Vietnam Patient with Parry Romberg

November 16, 2013

Hello, my name is Vu. I’m from Vietnam. I’m 23 years old. I’ve suffered from Parry Romberg Syndrome for three years. To me, this has been a long time with severe pain in my left neck, cheek and head. Have you ever heard about PRS? It’s a rare disease which causes facial asymmetry. There are an estimated 500 sufferers on over the world.

Three years ago, I felt something moving in my left cheek. The indentation appeared and got bigger which made my face asymmetrical. I couldn’t do anything but watch it getting worse. It was so frustrating to have that feeling. I went to the hospital, and the doctor said that I have trigeminal neuralgia. After a year of treatment, nothing changed. I researched the internet, and found the term “Parry Romberg” which matched every symptom I had. I tried oriental medicine and acupuncture, but it didn’t work well for me. In Vietnam, we don’t have any doctors who know a lot about PRS like Dr. Siebert.

Luckily, my friends didn’t notice the asymmetry, they just saw my face was getting thinner. I felt sad whenever they asked me “Why do you look so thin?” It’s more pronounced in picture, so I avoided taking pictures as much as I could. I lived like a dead man. I didn’t want to go out. I denied every party invitation. I turned from an extroverted person into an introverted person in a short time.

Some nights, I woke up with the pain. I almost gave up. I asked God, “Why does this happen to me? Have I done something wrong?” But I had no answers. I felt so angry. I’m angry about myself and the world. I thought that it was so unfair. I continued to live like that for two years– until I read some amazing books about belief and spirituality.

I started to believe in miracles and spirituality. I started to understand that things happen not by accident. If God wanted it here, there must have been a reason. When I started to believe, that is when my life started to change completely. I had gotten out of the darkness. Now I’m more happy and peaceful. I’m thankful for this new path. I decided to join a meditation society in Ho Chi Minh city, Viet Nam. It helps me a lot. The pain, the facial asymmetry is still there, but it’s getting better.

If you are suffering from PRS or other diseases, don’t don’t just give up– live your life. Because we are human and we have the right to live with health and happiness, and there is always a miracle in life.
