Patient Advocacy Summit 2014: Caregiving

Presented by Caregiver Action Network and Partners on the Path this year’s 2014 Global Genes Patient Advocacy Summit will feature speakers John Schall and Jane Hamilton. Attendees will learn both how to link to outside resources that will help them solve caregiving challenges and how to build interior resilience–that will help them to stay strong, and cope with the daily trials of caregiving for a loved one.

There is so much to explore in this genre of patient advocacy. Being the voice and often the decision maker for a loved one can bring incredible stress, as well as determination to make the right choices for their quality of life and recovery. Deep Dive sessions will focus on topics like how to ask for help, how to make peace with what you can no longer control, dealing with challenges as a family unit, and how to maximize learning for school-aged children.

An important three sessions will connect the voices of caregivers, patients  and parents who have been in these difficult positions to new and learning caregivers who need the voice of experience for guidance.

Introducing John Schall

CEO, Caregiver Action Network (CAN), John Schall, is a public policy and communications professional with noted expertise in a wide range of policy fields, including health care, labor, education, economic development, taxation, and budget policy. He has managed large staff organizations.  The mission of the Caregiver Action Network (CAN) is to promote resourcefulness and respect for the more than 65 million family caregivers across the country.

Introducing Jane Hamilton

Jane Meier Hamilton MSN, RN, is CEO and Founder of Partners on the Path, LLC. A nurse for 40 years and family caregiver for 20, she has created research-based, resilience-building resources to help caregivers remain productive while working, and compassionate while caring. Her book, The Caregiver’s Guide to Self-Care: Help for Your Caregiving Journey (Infinity 2011), is available in print, 1-hour audio, and e-book formats.
