It is important for you to know your family’s health history. It is one of the tools your doctor can use to keep you and your family healthy.
Knowing your family’s health history can help them find out if a disease runs in your family, so they can watch for signs or test you or your family members before it becomes a problem, and also start treatment earlier.
Since family history is such an important topic for everyone to understand, particularly communities of color, we have launched a new initiative in partnership with the Black Women’s Health Imperative/Rare Disease Diversity Coalition to address this. We hope to increase your knowledge and understanding of family history and genetic testing, help you get to a diagnosis quicker, and get better care.
